The Year is 2003, and a young couple who have recently moved to Kenya are driving into the small, remote and rural town of Molo. They need to do some grocery shopping and grab a few supplies. He is a Design and Technology Teacher and she is a Midwife. Their names are Chris & Sonia Donnan.
🏠 They are living at a prestigious Christian School nearby. Sonia is a House Parent in one of the girls dorms. They have three young children of their own.
⚡ Their lives are about to change forever…
As they step out of their old but trusty car, the dank and dry smell of another warm day in Africa envelops them. As they lock the car and walk towards the shops, they are mobbed by a random group of dirty and hungry children. All of them are emancipated and gaunt. Their eyes beg for help as their dirty and scrawny hands compel the young couple to spare some change. The two stare at the children momentarily overwhelmed by the boldness and the poverty. They look up at each other. Their eyes lock…and something inside them both is triggered!
🕰️ 22 years later, and Molo Street Children Project has rescued and aided more than 500 children from the Streets and into a brighter future. A Doctor, some accountants, an actuarial scientist, businessmen and women, fathers and mothers. Some are currently in university and college. Many are still in Secondary School and Primary School. The family keeps growing…day by day!
❤️ This is only possible because a young British couple decided to do something about the plight of a few Kenyan children 22 years ago. They chose to initiate change…
🔄 Transitions
Change is the only sure and constant thing in this life. In fact it is a driving force in the universe. Weather patterns change, Economies and Money Markets shift, Governments rise and fall, Feelings and relationships are altered, jobs come to an end while careers take off or nose dive. Health and vitality can decline rapidly or collapse in a day. There is never telling what a day may hold! Change is like a scheduled train. It will eventually come- tooting its horn at your station. It’s inevitable.
⏳ We at MSCP have been on the change train for a few years now. We have seen new staff come in and old staff bid us farewell. We have had new supporters come in and old ones exit. We have received many new children but also tipped our hats to some who have hit it out on their own as young adults.
The wheel of time must keep spinning. It waits for no one.
📖 This reminds me of a famous passage in the Bible; Ecclesiastes 03.
Below are a few verses:
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8A Time for Everything[1] For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:[2] a time to be born, and a time to die;a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; [3] a time to kill, and a time to heal;a time to break down, and a time to build up; [4] a time to weep, and a time to laugh;a time to mourn, and a time to dance; [5] a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; [6] a time to seek, and a time to lose;a time to keep, and a time to cast away; [7] a time to tear, and a time to sew;a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; [8] a time to love, and a time to hate;a time for war, and a time for peace.
The author, Solomon the King, really just wants to remind us of a simple reality – God has ordained seasons in this life ‘under the sun’. Humans are merely seasonal beings. We are like the grass and the flowers and the plants and the trees. Our flesh will soon be one with the soil. The question is always whether our fruit will outlive the shell behind… where will our souls go?
✍️ As we continue to write new chapters of this great organization, we must accept that some familiar language, som paragraphs and lines will disappear down the hour glass of the sands of time. We can only pray that the Great Author of life will be pleased to underline or highlight a line or two into His eternal chapters. That one or two scenes we are a part of may make it into the other kingdom – the Eternal Kingdom ‘under the Son.’
🙏 Stay tuned as we continue to share what God is doing in our story in this chapter…
We pray that God will grant us the courage and boldness to follow The Good Shepherd wherever He may lead.
That we will be at peace in the boat with Him, as He ordains the winds of change to blow into our sails to new directions for new adventures and conquests!
☀️ Here is to embracing change, ‘under the sun,’ as we seek to live our lives ‘in the Son'”
